Blurb for Do You Love Me (Trinity Series Book I )
I had one chance. One chance to tell the boy of my dreams that I love him, one chance to finally get the guy.
And I blew it.
I watched him leave. I watched as he went off to college to start a whole new life without me in it. A life filled with drinking, parties, and hot college girls. I suddenly became the pathetic young best friend, pining from afar, while he lived his life.
It took me a long time to get a second chance, and now that I have it, I wonder if I’ll finally have the guts to confess my love or if it will all go up in flames.

Review:

This book is intended for mature audiences.

Alex lives in the country with her father and doesn't stray much into London due to a man who broke her heart when she was younger.   She is not really actively out looking for a husband, but does still attend a few social events. Ambrose takes a bet to ruin Alex so he heads to the country to meet her.  Ambrose is a known rake who has ruined women in the past, but what happens when Ambrose actually meets Alex and the sparks fly.

Alex is such a great character.  She is very strong in her convictions and it is nice to see that her parents support her and making her own decisions.   A lot of women during this time where pushed into marriages of opportunity for the families, but Alex was allowed the freedom of choose and it was something she didn't take lightly.   Alex really thought through her decisions and tried to make the best of her situation.

Ambrose was my favorite character.   Since the book is told through the point of view of both Ambrose and Alex we really get to learn a lot about him.   He goes through some deep self evaluation in the book and it is great to read about.  He is a very intelligent man and really thinks out situations that he gets himself into.   I couldn't help, but fall in love with him while reading.

I think my favorite part of the book was the chemistry that Alex and Ambrose have.   The author did a great job creating sparks right from the beginning and the banter the characters have is so fun to read.   The chemistry does come on strong in the book and is great to read!

I loved how the author expanded upon the bet in the book and gave us a complete picture to the story.  The ending of the book is amazing and I love how all the loose ends where tied up.

I enjoyed the historical setting of the book.  The author did a great job keeping the entire story in the past. She really did a great job with all the details of the story to make you feel like you were in the country.   The descriptions of the characters as well as setting were perfect to keep the story flowing as well as helping me to picture in my head what was going on.

I would suggest this as a night time read.  It was very easy to pickup and put down the book while reading.  Also, I found the story was very easy to follow along with.  There were points when I wanted to know what was going to happen next, but it was nothing that couldn't wait till the next night.

Review:

This book has adult themes and is intended for a mature audience.

This book follows Krista who is a single mother with a daughter who is working at a biker bar hooking.   Krista is trying very hard to find a job with hew new degree so she can change her life, but her ex keeps popping up and trying to steal that away.   Colt is from another biker club who is working on finding the biker who is skimming the club as well as merging the two clubs.  Since Colt is in some hot water with his current club he really needs this to work.

The author did a great job with the storyline.   There is a lot of suspense built up within a few storylines that I couldn’t get enough of.  I wanted to know what was going to happen next with all of the characters.   The book is told through the eyes of Krista and Colt who both have very different personalities and goals in life.

I really enjoyed reading about Krista in this book.  The author did a great job showing all the conflicting feelings that Krista was experiencing.  I liked how the author even went into depth over Krista being a hooker and how she felt about that.   Krista is a very strong character in this book and during the entire book I was rooting for her to get what she deserved!!   Krista has a rough start and really is working on making everything right for her daughter.

Colt on the other hand was a little harder for me to like.   I feel like he was so worried about his bike club and all his other issues that he just wasn’t thinking straight.   Colt was driving me a little crazy in the book at some points I wanted to snap and yell at him.   Colt does really expand throughout the whole book and I do end up loving him at the end, but he was challenging.

The story has a lot of buildup and suspense and kept my full attention while reading.   The author did a great job with the story expanding from two people who have a connection to all the drama that comes along with it.   The author did a great job writing the romance for these two it was a little complicated and I feel like the up’s and down’s worked really well for these two characters.
The author added a lot of details about the bike club as well as Krista’s life that I thought really added to the story.   I felt like when I was reading I could imagine exactly what was going on and really visualize what was happening with the characters.

I would suggest this as a nighttime read.  The story was nicely paced and easy to follow along with.  I felt this was a great book for a nighttime escape from my daily life.

Excerpt:

“That was good, right?” He propped himself on an elbow. “You know I want you. But you gotta be up for this as well. All of it. Not just once, but something real.”
I wanted to say yes. I wanted to tell him that we were going to live happily ever after. Whatever I was doing right now could not continue. I’d lose all the business from the guys and Becky and I would be broke. But a little fling. I could have that, right? One night where I could feel wanted, cherished, loved.
I looked into his eyes and whispered, “I want you.”
It was the only thing I could promise right now. I knew he wanted more, but I couldn’t give him that. I could only give him right now.
His arms went rigid. “No. Not just want, not just now. Tell me this is more than just a quick fuck for you. Tell me you want more, or I’m going to stop.” His eyes were steel as they searched mine.

Review:

This book follows Rachael who harmlessly takes a photo of Kyle as part of a game that her and her best friend Monique play on Flit.  The issue arises is that once the picture of Kyle goes up it ends up going viral and he becomes internet famous.   Rachael in turn gets shammed by people for taking the photo.

The story is told through the eyes of Rachael and Kyle.  Each of their stories is broken up in alternating chapters throughout the book.  I really enjoyed this format it was nice to get a complete picture of what was going on with Rachael and Kyle and also we got to see some deeper down issues the two have that they are trying to work on individually.   It made the characters seem real.

I enjoyed reading the Rachael chapters of the book.  She is really funny and it comes through in the chapters about Rachael.   The author does a great job creating her vulnerabilities and exploring them throughout the book.  I think that Rachael has a lot of self confidence and that is extremely important in society today to not take things to personally.   Rachael is a very strong female character that the author did a great job creating.

Kyle on the other hand I just didn't love.  I felt like he really couldn't make up his mind during a good portion of the book.  He did make very logical arguments, but then didn't really act through on them.  I understand he was trying to come off as the nice guy, but it didn't really work for me.

The story line the author created is very cute.  She took the idea of becoming internet famous and really expanded upon that to create the entire story.   I liked how she added in the TV show aspect to it and it made it feel like it actually happened.  I enjoyed all the details the author used in the book when describing the different scenes it helped bring the book to life for me.

My major issue with the book is that there is like almost zero communication between Rachel and Kyle who are the two main characters.   They don't really speak their true feelings to each other during the book.  It is completely frustrating because they each say it a few times in their internal dialogue that we don't really know each other, well you don't because you don't talk to one another.   It is hard to build a relationship without being able to openly communicate with someone.  If they were both able to ask just some basic questions when they hang out I think this book could have been a lot better.   Having Rachel and Kyle constantly question if they should ask important questions and say nothing really bothered me throughout the whole book.

I would suggest this as a nighttime read.  The book was very easy to follow along with and had short chapters that you could quickly read.  The storyline was written so that you could stop reading for a bit and pickup right where you left off.

I received a copy of this book from The Fantastic Flying Book Club for the purpose of writing a honest review.  This does not effect my opinion of this book.

My Rating: 3/5

The Distance Between Us - Kasie West (Review)

The Distance Between Us by Kasie West
Genres: Young Adult Fiction, Romance, Contemporary
Publication date: July 2nd 2013
Publisher: HarperTeen
Format: paperback, 312 pages

Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she's beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.

..............................................................................

My thoughts:

I am not sure why I waited so long to read a book by Kasie West.  I have a feeling she is going to quickly moved up on my favorite author list!

This book follows Caymen who works and lives in her mother's doll shop. Caymen has only grown up knowing this lifestyle.  The town she lives in has a large amount of very wealthy residents as well.  Caymen has heard horror stories from her mother about the very wealthy residents including the story of her dad never seeing her and walking away.  Caymen has very strong opinions of the wealthy residents since she sees them come into the doll shop.  Xander appears to be just another rich kid when he walks in the door, but things aren't always what they seem.

The story is told through the eyes of Caymen only, which is great because we get to see a lot of the internal thoughts that she is thinking when the story is taking place.  I wish we did get to see a little of Xander's thoughts as well.

I loved Caymen as a character.  She was only a 17 year old girl who was taking on a lot of responsibilities at home that are way beyond what a teenager should have to deal with.  Caymen was very mature for her age, but didn't really know what to do with her life in the future.  She did want to grow up, but she didn't want to leave her mom behind.  I loved the relationship that the author created between Caymen and her mother.   I could see how strong the bond was and when stuff started to happen I saw Caymen really evaluate this relationship.

Xander was a whole different character.  He was wise beyond his years.  Xander might not have figured out exactly what he wanted to do with his life, but he was very capable of multitasking as well as making time for what was important.  I just couldn't help but fall in love with Xander he really was just a perfect character.  He tried hard to make Caymen fall for him and in the end you could really see all the effort he was putting forward and how much he cared for her.

The story is setup as a basic love story of boy meets girl, girl is not sure, boy and girl fall in love, but there is just so much more to the characters and the story that meets the eyes.   I loved the storyline that the author created because towards the end I really didn't see the turn the story took.  She took her time creating very complex relationships between several of the characters that made me just want to keep reading.  During the entire book I just felt fully engrossed with the characters and the story I couldn't put it down.

I guess my one complaint at the end of the book was I just wanted more.   I felt incomplete when the story was over.  I was totally sucked into Caymen and her life and wanted to know what was going to happen next.  I could totally use a squeal for this book I have a lot of lingering questions

I would say this is a great vacation read.  I ended up reading this book in one day I couldn't get enough.   The story flew by and was a quick easy take your mind off the day read!

{Blog Tour} Quinn's Honor - Shirleen Davies (Spotlight)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Description
Quinn’s Honor, Book Three, MacLarens of Boundary Mountain Historical Western Romance Series
“Every book of Shirleen's never fails to draw me in and make it impossible to put down until I devour it!”
Quinn MacLaren has one true love…Circle M, the family ranch. He makes it a habit of working hard and playing harder, spending time with experienced women who know he wants nothing more than their company. He buries the love he feels for one woman deep inside, knowing he’ll never be the man she needs.
Emma Pearce is a true ranch woman, working long hours to help keep the family ranch thriving. Feisty, funny, and reliable, she’s the girl all the single young men want—after they’ve sewn their wild oats. Few know Emma has her heart set on one man. A man who may never grow up enough to walk away from his wild ways and settle down.
When tragedy strikes, Quinn’s right where he doesn’t want to be—as temporary foreman of the Pearce ranch. Stepping in to fill Big Jim Pearce’s shoes isn’t easy. Neither is keeping his feelings for Emma hidden and his hands to himself. Honor-bound to do what is right, Quinn meets the challenge, losing Emma’s friendship in the process.
Adding to Quinn’s worries, something sinister is working its way through the thriving town of Conviction. Unforeseen forces are at work. Debt builds, families lose their ranches, and newcomers threaten to divide not only the land, but the people—including the Pearce family.
As events unfold, Quinn faces the difficult challenge of keeping his feelings for Emma hidden and his honor intact. Doing what he believes is right couldn’t feel more wrong.
After all, what’s a man without honor?
Quinn’s Honor, book three in the MacLarens of Boundary Mountain historical western romance series, is a full-length novel with an HEA and no cliffhanger.
Excerpt:

“I wondered if you’d decided to quit.”

Quinn spun around. Emma stood not six feet away, wrapped in a thin coat, her arms crossed. He took a couple steps toward her, surprised she’d gotten so close without him knowing.

“I didn’t hear you come in.”

She walked closer, closing the distance until they were a foot apart. She hadn’t seen the complete exhaustion on his face or the slump of his shoulders until now. He’d been working from dawn until late each night, doing what her pa hadn’t been able to do since Jimmy’s death. The ranch was in better shape than ever, the ranch hands having a competence they lacked before Quinn arrived. Even though she still felt some justification for her actions, all she’d done was make his life harder.

Reaching up, she swiped an errant strand of hair from his forehead. The rush of feelings when her fingers touched his skin, caused her face to heat. She licked her lips as a pulsing sensation rushed through her. Dropping her gaze to his eyes, her heart tripped at the intensity of his stare. His gray-blue eyes turned stormy, the color of the night sky when lightning ignited the heavens.

Her stomach fluttered and heart raced when he said nothing, continuing to study her. Before she could step away, Quinn’s hand came up, his fingers wrapping around her wrist, pulling her close.

She didn’t flinch. Didn’t try to pull away or break her gaze. Instead, she leaned forward, almost touching his chest.

“Emma…” He breathed her name out, almost as a prayer.

She could see the vein in his neck pulse, hear the almost desperate agony in his voice. Still, she didn’t move away.

“What is it, Quinn?”

Searching her face, he sucked in a shaky breath, seeing trust and so much more. Lowering his head, he stopped an inch from her mouth, wanting her to pull back, needing her to meet him.

Lifting her chin, she placed her other hand on his chest, splaying her fingers wide. Her lips parted an instant before Quinn’s touched them.

His actions were gentle, a mere caress before becoming more urgent. Letting go of her wrist, he wrapped his arms around her, aligning her body with his. Melting into him, she lifted her arms around his neck, drawing him down on a deep sigh.
