My thoughts:

This story follows Phil who is a 55-year old restaurant owner who is looking for a new boyfriend.  He has been hurt in the past by a boyfriend and isn’t 100% sure how to move on.  Phil has been doing some dating, but hasn’t found anyone right.  Tyson is a 28-year-old from Georgia who meets Phil while playing a game online.  The two develop a friendship by playing the game together and the story unfolds from there.

I enjoyed the author’s comments at the end of the chapters that gave a very personal touch to the story. 

The story is told through Phil’s eyes.  We get to see the relationship between Phil and Tyson slowly unfold.  I enjoyed getting to learn more about Phil and what issues he is dealing with when it comes to his view of relationships.  I also enjoyed that we got to learn about the restaurant business from Phil’s eyes.  I loved that when out he would be pointing out issues or health violations.    I also loved that we got to see Phil’s family during the book; it was interesting to learn about the relationship he had with his sister and her family. 

Tyson was such a great character who I just couldn’t help but love hearing about him.  I enjoyed getting to know him through Phil’s eyes.  He seemed so cute and a very positive personality.  I loved how he could turn Phil’s whole view around and how exciting he made Phil. 

My one issue with the book would be I wanted a little more out of the story.  The book is short in nature and I would have loved to get more of a backstory on Phil and Tyson.  They seemed to have a very strong connection in the book and I would have loved them to share more about themselves.  I felt connected to the characters, but I wanted a little bit more.

I would suggest this as a nighttime read it was easy to pick up the story and put it down while keeping pace.  The story is short, but is easy to follow along with.

My thoughts:

This short novella does contain adult scenes towards the end.

This novella follows Dr. Annie Cryer who is a wolf shifter that has been banished from her pack years ago.  She has been wondering about trying to help people.  Annie’s pack leader calls and asks for her to help Grizzly shifter Jonas Browning whose clan is in trouble and in return she will be let back into her pack.

For being just a novella, it has enough background information that the story felt very complete.  After finishing the book, I did want more from Annie and Jonas, but it did have a natural stop.

Annie has been banished from her wolf pack, which is a big deal since wolves are always in packs.  Annie has been looking for a way back to her pack and get her life back on track.  Jonas is concerned that his pack is no longer producing offspring’s.  Jonas has hired Annie to figure out a solution to this problem his clan is having so they will survive. 

Annie is a strong character since she has been cast off and on her own for a while she has developed a tougher skin.   Annie is extremely smart and tries to keep her inner wolf at bay.   Jonas has his own intentions when he meets Annie and is surprised how much they like one another, it is a instalove idea, but it works with this story.   Jonas needs to focus on his issues to figure out exactly how he feels.  I enjoyed that we got both Annie’s and Jonas’s POV while reading it helped bring the book together for me.

I would suggest this as a weekend read.  It was so quick to read it could easily be read in one sitting and it kept me entertained the entire read.  The story is very compact and has a lot going on in it that it was a perfect quick read.

My thoughts:

I loved watching Gilmore Girls years ago and I really enjoyed watching the 4 short mini episodes and still want more, so I couldn’t resist listening to Lauren Graham talk about Gilmore Girls in her book.

The book follows Lauren Graham as she tells us about the tales of her life.  I listened to the audio version of this book and she narrates the entire thing so it was even more perfect!

Lauren starts off by telling us about her early days in acting and how she got her start.  I loved hearing the details she gave about the important life events that shaped her into the actress she is today.  I had no idea that singing was important to her at all since we didn't see much of that on Gilmore Girls.  I enjoyed getting to know Lauren more as a person versus just her roles that she has played.  

  

I loved getting to learn more about Gilmore Girls in the process of listening to this book.  Lauren gives some highlights of her time when they were filming the original Gilmore Girls as well as information about the 4-episode reboot.  I absolutely love that she feels the same way about the ending of the reboot. 

My favorite part had to be about how she tries to keep her personal life separate from her work life. I enjoyed hearing about her family and other relationships that she had that she doesn’t talk about that often.   I also loved how she tried to incorporate all the important people in her life into the Gilmore Girls reboot.

The book felt very personal to listen too.  I would suggest listening to this book as Lauren Graham narrating brought it to life.  If you enjoyed watching Gilmore Girls or Parenthood I would highly recommend this book.  This book doesn’t have that much advice per say so I wouldn’t suggest reading it if you weren’t that interested in Lauren Graham.

My thoughts:

This is my first Maggie Stiefvater book and will not be my last.

This book follows Grace who was attacked by wolves in her backyard at a young age.  Grace was saved by one wolf that she took a liking to and was always looking out for named Sam.  Grace is constantly watching the wolves by herself and hoping to see Sam.

Grace was obsessed with the wolves in an unhealthy way.  She was beginning to lose friends over the wolf obsession.   My main reason I enjoyed reading about Grace was she was so passionate about the wolf thing that in the end it worked for me.  Grace took her time to learn as much as she could about the wolves by studying them and wanting to learn more about Sam.   Grace does grow as a character when she is needed to find a solution to the wolf situation in her town.

Sam is a lot more complicated of a main character.  He is a wolf to begin the book and we get to learn a lot about how he transforms to a wolf and what goes on with the wolves.   I enjoyed getting to learn about Sam and his life throughout the book.  I felt more connected to Sam and could feel his struggles in his chapters because he didn’t think he had a lot of choices left.   I also felt more emotions coming from Sam versus Grace during the book so it felt more real to me.  

The story is told from both POV of Sam and Grace.  I loved that we got to see what each of them were thinking during the book and it helped keep me attention while listening to the audio switching back and forth.   I loved that we got to see the story unfold from both of their eyes.

I did like the romance that Maggie created between Grace and Sam is cute.  It came on quickly in the book, but in the same time they were both studying each other from a distance for a long time so it worked. 

This book has a lot of buildup and backstory thrown into it so the pacing is a little slower.  I enjoyed learning about the wolves and how they were surviving in the area.  Maggie does an excellent job crafting the story.

I can’t wait to listen or read the next book in the series.  I want to see what is going to happen with the wolves since there is so much we learned in the first book and a lot of potential to move forward.  Although the first book was nicely ended I do look forward to another Grace and Sam story.

I would suggest this as a night listen or read.  I found natural stopping points so I could take breaks from listening to the book, but still being able to maintain the story.  Also, I felt there were parts of the story that took a little bit of time to digest exactly what happened.

My thoughts:

This story follows Poppy who recently got engaged to the man of her dreams.  While out with the girls she was passing along her engagement ring and the fire alarm goes off causing the ring to go missing.   Poppy begins the search and in the process, loses her cell phone.  Poppy ends up picking up a cell phone from the garage can and it happens to belong to Sam.  Poppy and Sam begin an unconventional relationship via the shared cell phone. 

Poppy is such an interesting main character.  She is trying to do the right thing always and in the process, doesn’t realize she is putting herself second.  Poppy is working to fit in with her finance’s Magnus’s family who happen to be all well published educators.   Poppy desperately wants to make everything work and be perfect.  Poppy gets a lot of bumps handed to her and she handles them well. 

Magnus is such an interesting male character for Poppy.  They don’t seem to mesh well and he does appear to be avoiding her for a good portion of the book, although we only get Poppy’s POV so we don’t 100% know what is up with Magnus.  As we get a closer consider Poppy’s relationship we do see some red flags going off with Magnus.  I enjoyed getting the background that we did get on Magnus because it helped see what he was thinking.

Sam is a perfect male lead in a book.  I can see him being a perfect book boyfriend.  He comes off harsh in the beginning, but it does appear he has a higher stress job and that he might need a little help opening up. I loved when we got to learn more about him and see that he acts a certain way due to his end goals.

The author does a great job with the storyline to keep the story moving along.  There is a lot of action that happens in a short amount of time.  The story is told through Poppy’s POV so we get to consider her thinking pattern as well as seeing what is going on with her as it happens.  I loved getting to know the characters and couldn’t help but root for Poppy while listening.   The side characters in the book made the story even better.  I loved the comic relief that I got while listening to this book.

The ending of the book was perfect in my mind.  It was tied in a perfect bow for me and I love when a novel feels complete.

I would highly recommend the audio of this book.  The narrator was perfect and so easy to listen too.  I loved getting to listen to this story.  It would be the perfect book to read while having a weekend to do nothing.

My thoughts:

This book follows Christine who is recently pregnant with her first child and going to be stopping working so she can raise her child.   Christine and her husband Marcus ended up conceiving via a donor after many trying months.   Christine and Marcus have hidden the fact that they ended up using a donor from most people.

My one favorite part about the book was the mystery itself.  The author did a great job unraveling the clues of what was going on.  I did want to keep reading the book until I figured out exactly what happened and who the murder was.   This was basically the only reason I was able to finish this book. 

I had so many issues with this book right from the beginning.  I just couldn’t stand Christine as the main character; her personality was under my skin quickly into the book.  Christine was making every issue about herself and putting herself in a lot of danger while making these decisions that she was trying to justify.  It was like she couldn’t listen to any rational information and then started in my mind freaking out.   

The plot was also a struggle for me when reading this book.  There was a pretty logical way to get the answer that Christine craved of who her donor was, but she just couldn’t wait.  I understand that waiting was going to be challenging, but every decision after that she made was just completely out of left field and only put herself in more danger.   I struggled to find a way to relate to Christine or even follow her thought pattern so it was challenging for me to feel any sympathy for her.   

Also, I have NO idea what was going on in Christine’s and Marcus’s marriage, but I have a lot of questions on how the ending is even possible.

If I had to suggest when to read this book I would suggest this as a nighttime read.   I found a large amount of stopping points and could put it down easily.

My thoughts:

This book is written my mother and daughter duo Lisa Scottoline and Francesca Serritella.  I have read several of Lisa Scottoline’s books and enjoyed them so I was excited to see what this book had to offer.

This book is told in a series of short chapters that talk about happenings in Lisa’s and Francesca’s current life as they are writing.  The stories are meant to be more on the comical side, not truly reflective of Lisa’s novel style.   The stories are told from Lisa’s perspective and Francesca’s perspectives in the different chapters.  Lisa has more of the stories, but we do get alternating ones when Francesca takes over the story telling.   The chapters/stories are short in nature so they are quick reads.

I enjoyed reading the stories about the current happenings in their lives.  It was interesting to hear how everyday occurrences can be made into fun stories to listen too.  I loved that we get to see the relationship between mother and daughter as they both speak about one another in their perspective stories.   As a reader you can tell that the mother and daughter share a very deep and special bond.

Some of the stories are laugh out loud funny.  We get to hear each of their own thoughts about what is going on.  It was a fun read that I couldn’t put down once I started it.  They talk about a lot of everyday modern happenings and give their opinion.

I would suggest this a nighttime read.  It is a great book to take your mind off the day.  The stories don’t follow one another so it is easy to read a few stories before bed to relax.  The flow of the book does feel natural, but it doesn’t have a specific order.
