From actress, comedian, and YouTube sensation Lilly Singh (aka ||Superwoman||) comes the definitive guide to being a bawse—a person who exudes confidence, reaches goals, gets hurt efficiently, and smiles genuinely because they’ve fought through it all and made it out the other side.

Told in her hilarious, bold voice that’s inspired over nine million fans, and using stories from her own life to illustrate her message, Lilly proves that there are no shortcuts to success.

WARNING: This book does not include hopeful thoughts, lucky charms, and cute quotes. That’s because success, happiness, and everything else you want in life needs to be fought for—not wished for. In Lilly’s world, there are no escalators, only stairs. Get ready to climb.

My thoughts:

I think I should start of by letting you know I have never watched any of Lilly Singh YouTube videos.  I didn’t know who she was when I picked this book up at my library, but I was completely drawn to the cover and I love the word Bawse so I needed to read it.

This book is told by Lilly who is a YouTube star and she goes through the guiding principals of how to make your life better.  It is set in 50 short chapters that are no longer then a page or two with different topics on things to focus on to make you more successful.

Lilly picks a very vast number of topics from business life to personal life on how to be successful.  I enjoyed how she would share anecdotes of how they relate to her personal life and gave examples of what she did to overcome any challenges.

The book felt extremely organized and well thought-out.  I felt the different chapters flowed nicely together and gave me a complete picture of what point she was trying to get across.

My favorite section of the book was by far the fear of missing out on something while preparing for another event.  I do feel this was something while growing up that is harder to learn that it is ok to miss out on things when you are working hard towards an end goal.

I don’t think any of the advice is life shattering, but there are several topics that would make you evaluate what you are doing with your life.  She has good strategies on how to approach situations.

I do suggest reading the hardcover copy as the pictures are great!

I would suggest this as a weekend read I felt the book was very light and it was easy to read on the couch over the weekend.

  1. This sounds fun! I like that even though it wasn't earth shattering, it was able to make you think about things! I hadn't heard of her before either, but I like the sound of it. Great review!
