Taken off the streets Nika is thrown into an unknown world where she's held captive. As an orphan, she has been on the run and must find her way out before they discover her secret. But these people held the knowledge of her family and who she is. Will she be able to find out before her secret is revealed? After hundreds of years, Demyan has finally found the rightful ruler of his race. Unfortunately, she doesn't know who she is and is doing everything in her power to escape him. Time is running out and Demyan has to convince Nika to take her rightful place otherwise the battle will be lost and his race extinguished.

My thoughts:

This is a super short enticing read that follows Nika as she is taken off the streets and brought into a new world where she is being held against her will by Demyan.  Nika has always been hiding her whole life since she found out that she was different from everyone else, she isn't sure though who to let her guard down too or what she really is.

I loved the character development that the author was able to accomplish in this novella.  She did a great job creating Nika and giving us a background on her.  I could completely understand how she became the person she was today and also her ability to adapt so quickly.  Nika might have trust issues, but I think she is able to read people easily from many years of experience

In such a short book I was very surprised that author was able to give the reader so much background information on Nika's family and also Demyan's involvement.   Also, the author was able to create a dynamic relationship between Nika and Demyan in only a few pages. I had very few questions as the story progressed, the information you needed was presented right when you needed to know it.  The background information was also presented very consistently so it allowed you to get a complete picture with not to much fluff, which to me was perfect for this book and made reading it very enjoyable

I hope there will be a second book in these series because I loved the characters we got to meet in this book and want to know more about them.  The author has a lot of potential for a second book since it ends with a great cliffhanger and there are mentions of other societies that could be explored as well.

I suggest reading this book when you need a break from your normal reading pattern.  This book is a super short read and very entertaining.  It is super fast paced so you will want to know what is going to happen.  It would be a great nighttime read to take your mind off your day.

I was received a copy of this book from The Fantastic Flying Book Club for the purpose of providing an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
